This Isn’t Working For Me (The Healthcare Song) ©2013
by E. Christine Anderson (BMI)

On the wall is a promise on a paper,
(It) says a doctor, who’s a stranger,
gonna do me no harm.
We meet and seven minutes later,
I have a diagnosis and the doctor is gone.

CHORUS
Stop me if I don’t got this right,
You see dollar signs in my plight,
Bury my body next to Hippocrates,
This isn’t working for me.

Downtown, my insurance friends reject,
They won’t pay what I expect – my claim is denied,
But upstairs, they cut million dollar bonus checks,
To ensure the top execs hit the bottom line.

CHORUS
Stop me if I don’t got this right,
You see dollar signs in my plight,
Bury my body next to Hippocrates,
This isn’t working for me.

And gamblers with the power, spread their cards through hallowed halls,
They’re billing by the hour, hedging bets that all get called.

On the Hill, all the people with no eyes to see
Are blaming with impunity, and won’t compromise.
Rage on – they’re telling truth selectively,
And killing off civility to drown out our cries.

CHORUS
Stop me if I don’t got this right,
You see dollar signs in my plight,
Bury my body next to Hippocrates,
This isn’t working for me or you, or me or you, or me or you,
This isn’t working for me,
This isn’t working for me.

Just Change The Boundary (The Gerrymander Song)©2016
by E. Christine Anderson (BMI)

We got kinda nervous, as we read the polling news
We sure need our paychecks and the perks and titles too
We looked at the addresses, where we lost the vote and such
And then we had a great idea…it wasn’t cheating…much

CHORUS
Just change the boundary, re-draw the lines,
The people in these districts vote the wrong way every time,
But move the borders and we will dominate,
First take away the people’s choice, and then we’ll rule the state

These districts came about through logic or geography,
But they’re not carved in stone, and so there’s flexibility
Our party has to hold the state, if we’re to change the tide,
No one will ever beat us, with new precincts on our side

CHORUS
Just change the boundary, re-draw the lines,
The people in these districts vote the wrong way every time,
But move the borders and we will dominate,
First take away the people’s choice, and then we’ll rule the state

To steal elections: discriminate
The other party may fight on, but it will be too late,
We’ll blame the ‘others’ while we ‘de-nominate’
And we’ll hold all the purse strings – by coincidence or fate

CHORUS
Just change the boundary, re-draw the lines,
The people in these districts vote the wrong way every time,
But move the borders and we will dominate,
First take away the people’s choice, and then we’ll rule the state
Just take away the people’s choice, and then we’ll rule the state

Virginia © 1999
by E. Christine Anderson (BMI)

I’ve been watching you a long time now, Virginia,
A Southern Belle, dressed up in elegant attire,
And how your quiet manner eased my soul, Virginia,
But there were others watching you with bold desire

CHORUS
You are my home, Virginia,
I thought you change – less,
So like a child I stared as they took you apart.
Why did I trust that those in power,
Would always love you like I do?
I don’t know how, Virginia, but I will hide your heart.

Are you fooled by all the braggarts and big spenders?
Don’t trade their money for your beauty or renown.
‘Cause they won’t want you once they’ve taken all your splendor,
And you’re left standing with their cash in your torn gown.

CHORUS
You are my home, Virginia,
I thought you change – less,
So like a child I stared as they took you apart.
Why did I trust that those in power,
Would always love you like I do?
I don’t know how, Virginia, but I will hide your heart.

BRIDGE
Shave the hills and pave the fields, boost the profits and the yields,
Erase the woods, we’ll plant ’em new, we need more mansions with no view.

Once the dogwood flowers blazed for you in springtime,
Does the cardinal’s bright color for you shine?
These faithless suitors want to profit from your promise.
But I believe there’s still a part of you that’s mine.

Road Less Traveled © 2017
by E. Christine Anderson (BMI)

There’s just some things I should have learned by now:
How to speak and when to listen,
To act my age, but Lord, I don’t know how,
I worry what I could be missing

And when I think of all the bad advice,
Pitched by rulers from their castles,
I think it’s better just to toss the dice,
‘Cause kings don’t care about my hassles.

CHORUS
Round and round, truth or dare,
Where’s the leader who might really care?
So take my hand, and walk this way,
We’ll hang together, come what may.

This roads is busy, but we will find our peace,
By seeking out the way that’s narrow.
Though few may travel here, they walk with ease,
And hear the beauty of the sparrow.

CHORUS
Round and round, truth or dare,
Where’s the leader who might really care?
So take my hand, and walk this way,
We’ll hang together, come what may.

My soul listens to the rising creek,
I know this sound is more than babble.
It’s telling me that now’s the time to speak,
And take the road that is less traveled.

Wouldn’t It Be Nice ©2015
by E. Christine Anderson (BMI)

The CEOs keeps making tens of millions,
While workers go on welfare rolls each day,
The middle class makes up the gap, in billions
As deficits pave the American Way.

CHORUS 1
But wouldn’t it be nice,
If all the companies,
That rip their workers off, paid a living wage?
And ponied up their share, for roads and bridges,
And felt that paying taxes, kept America great?

I’m not the only one who’s getting pensive
What’s going wrong with Mom and apple pie?
‘Cause Mom is gone obese and hypertensive,
As apples and wheat genes are modified.

CHORUS 2
But wouldn’t it be nice, if agribusiness,
Just gave a hoot, about our health?
We only want to buy food that is labeled,
That won’t outlive us on the grocery shelf.

Lots of us are noticing and we wonder,
How average folks can ever have a choice
When cash makes candidates all buckle under
And then politicians give businesses our voice

BRIDGE
Oh give me a home, where the lobbyists roam,
and the House & the Senate both play,
Where seldom is heard an un-paid-for word,
‘cause the people don’t count anyway.

CHORUS 3
But wouldn’t it be nice, if we the people
Finally stood up, and said………… “Enough!”
And if our special interest, was each other?
And we all united, to throw out the bums? (Repeat CHORUS 3)
And we all united, to throw out the bums

Propaganda Polka ©2017
by E. Christine Anderson (BMI)

When he was just a little boy, he felled a cherry tree,
The honest child, George Washington, was brave as he could be
He said he couldn’t tell a lie, when asked what he had done,
But these days, that’s the wrong reply… ‘cause honesty is dumb

He needed:

CHORUS
Prop-a, Propaganda,
Al-ter-nate the facts, and tell a boldface lie,
If you berate them, no one will stop ya,
So deny the truth, mislead and justify

The truths we held self-evident were just a passing fad,
So let’s combine the church and state, now how could that be bad?
And why would anyone admire a guy called ‘Honest Abe’?,
We’ll just re-write our history, ‘cause those values are too lame.

Because of:

CHORUS
Prop-a, Propaganda,
Al-ter-nate the facts, and tell a boldface lie,
If you berate them, no one will stop ya,
So deny the truth, mislead and justify

We’re in ‘fantastic’ times now, in the ‘greatest’ U.S.A.!
The ‘best’ administration wants the press to go away,
Our president will count the crowds, the rest is subterfuge,
And we must all remember… Everything about him’s …..YUGE!

Or is it?

CHORUS (2x)
Prop-a, Propaganda,
Al-ter-nate the facts, and tell a boldface lie,
If you berate them, no one will stop ya,
So deny the truth, mislead and justify
TAG
Yes, deny the truth, mislead and justify
